Canaries to Madeira

by Lorraine Beigley - 17:39 on 30 August 2016

The decision was made a few weeks ago, the entry form submitted with payment and last week we started to prepare Red Ruth for her first off-shore passage in a few years.  We are taking part in the Canaries to Madeira regatta, which is held every 2 years.  A good clean internally was required and of course, the numerous jobs that crop up when you don't use a boat very frequently.  So new kitchen tap, descale of toilets, reseal window cover screws, pump up the dinghy, attach the wind vane, etc, etc, etc.

Our crew consists of our usual Regatta crew, with the exception of one crew member change.  Unfortunately one crew member is not able to join us, but we have a young Madeiran crew member joining us.  I hope he doesn't mind being on board for 2-3 days with some 'oldies'.  Some of my old friends are joining us on board - wendy the wind vane, sol the solar showers.

The Regatta has 50 yachts participating and we are told some of the Spanish yachts are quite big and really good.  Check back in a couple of weeks and we'll let you know how we got on.
