What a fantastic storm we had overnight.  Thunderclaps that bounced you out of bed with Lightening flashes that blinded you through the curtains.  It was absolutely fantastic but I was glad I was tucked up in bed and not out at sea.  The rain came down as did the hailstones, hammering against the balcony doors and lasting for about 3 hours.  This morning as we stepped out of the hotel front doors the results were evident.  There is not a lot of storm water drainage which with heavy downpours or large sea swells makes for flooding of the roads in Sliema.  At the corner, outside the hotel, this morning the manhole covers had been lifted out of position by the storm water.  Unfortunately a van managed to get his front wheel stuck down the manhole.  A row of cars behind had to tow him out backwards.  The good news was that an hour later there was no sign of the floodwater.

The sun is out now but there is more rain expected during the week.
