We arrived at the Quintas do Lordes Marina at about 1pm on Wednesday 11th July 2012.  The Marineros and other boat owners in the marina could not have been any more helpful or welcoming.  We were greeted by a marinero in a RIB coming out the 1/2 mile to meet us.  When we entered the Marina another marinero and 2 others were waiting to assist us.  They fully appreciated that after 5 days at sea we were tired.  There were no criticism over our entry, how we tied up and in fact they took control and had us tied up alongside the pontoon before we even knew it had happened!  Then we were welcomed in a wonderfully local way with big smiles and a happy outlook.  The office staff are fantastic and give you a total overview of the Island  - but as we were so tired they gave us the basic minimum and invited us to come back after we had a sleep for the informational part of the welcome.  A Madeira tourism information pack is provided along with the local knowledge.  The office manager is also the local honorary rep for the Cruising Association (of which we are members) and is most helpful.  A discount is available if you are CA members.

After we had enjoyed a whole night sleep we woke to the start of some adverse weather - a bit blowy and grey skies but nothing to worry about in this nice secure marina.  The Marina offer free transport to the town of Machico for shopping so we have booked for a lift in the afternoon to get some fresh provision.

First impression - we will enjoy our visit here.  The people are so friendly and welcoming - and it feels very genuine.  We have only been to Machico but it is a delightful town which we thoroughly enjoyed spending a couple of hours walking around and doing our shopping.

I think we like it here!

We agree, Qunitas do Lordes is a great marina and katia is very helpful and their book swap was great too! Enjoy the island and after seeing Funchal harbour, you will be pleased to be where you are. Get permission to go to the Salvegens as they are supposed to be very beautiful and peaceful.
