Fado & Wine

Well another week has passed and this time we spent it with good friends. A visit from our French friends aboard 'Oiona' on Sunday was spent visiting the Santo da Serra market and tasting the local Poncha (always beneficial to the system), followed by the afternoon at the house having a Barbeque. On Friday evening we met again in Canical to enjoy the local fish restuarant there. The debate continued between the men folk as to the benefits of English Beer and French Wine. Needless to say a lot of tasting went on during the discussion with the outcome being that we will get together in England or France and continue the debate!!
Later in the week we met up with our friends from Inverness, on holiday in Madeira. We had a lovely meal with them in their hotel followed a couple of days later by a meal in one of the 'Old Town' restaurants. Our meal there was accompanied by Fado. This was our first experience of Fado and it was very pleasant. The singers have wonderful voices which when they interact with each other combines to make an atmospheric delight. Of course it is all sung with dimmed lights so its a bit difficult at times to see what you are eating - but good fun nonetheless.
